Alex, which is what he goes by, is by far our biggest kid, however, he is also one of our most quiet. Alex is a thinker who will surprise you more often than not with thoughtful questions about faith or other topics that most kids aren’t asking us. With Alex, outside of sharing with him Christ’s love, which is always of the utmost importance, we are working on helping him develop leadership skills. Alex is pretty self-conscious about his size, so we think this is why he is so quiet and hesitant in group settings; the funny thing is, his size makes him an expected leader amongst his peers. The other kids look to him for leadership, so we are encouraging him in that area.
Alex currently lives with his Aunt Maura, who is one of the cooks in the Project. His mom, who is raising him by herself, left him with Maura to go find work outside of Nicaragua. Alex is a good kid, works hard in his studies and doesn’t cause trouble. We are praying that God lights that spark in his heart that will give him that deep-rooted joy that comes only by accepting Christ as Lord.
